Ansley
Continuing west to Ansley, the Ansley park
is a nice stop for tourists and residents alike. It offers camping facilities,
baseball, playground and picnic areas, along with a well-stocked fishing
pond. Ansley is a pivot point for travelers going north to the Calamus
Reservoir near Burwell; east to Grand Island, Lincoln, or Omaha; south
to the Interstate; or west to the Sandhills. North of Ansley is the community
of Sargent, home of the Chokecherry Jamboree. Many have tried their luck
at the pit-spitting contests at the June celebration. A tour of the Little
Log Company Workshop is a must. Birds can only dream of living in these
unique log cabin birdhouses, many of which have been shipped all over
the world. A visit to the Dowse Sod House near Comstock can be arranged
on the return trip from Sargent back to Highway 2.
