Litchfield
Venturing into Sherman County toward Hazard and Litchfield,
it is apparent that cattle country is just around the bend. The terrain
changes from the flatter valley of Hall County to gently rolling hills
covered with pasture grasses. Sherman County offers the best walleye
fishing in Nebraska at Sherman Lake near Loup City. Sixty-eight miles
of shoreline assures everyone choice spots. Water-skiing and jet-skiing
are popular activities. Very proud of their Polish heritage, Loup City
has a Polish festival, andAshton has a Polish Heritage Center. The Sherman
County Historical Museum is located in Loup City. Litchfield recently
played host to The Travel Channel during their Old Settler Days. The
television station was filming unusual things people did for entertainment
and had two of their crew participating in Litchfield's first demolition
derby.
