Merna
During the early days, the town moved three times due to the uncertainty of where the railroad would lay tracks. In 1886 the tracks finally were laid where Merna stands today. In 1992, news of a meteoric crater put Merna on the map. Scientists from the University of Kansas found soil samples ten miles west and south of town that they believed contained material ejected from the crater when a meteor slammed into the Earth thousands of years ago.
