Mullen
Mullen offers a variety of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. The annual Sandhills Sharptail Shootout is the second Sunday of the Nebraska grouse season in September. For the experienced canoeist, the scenic Dismal River winds its way through steep, cedar-lined canyons. The Dismal's swift current, winding channel, and natural obstacles make it one of Nebraska's most challenging rivers. Just one mile north of Mullen, the Middle Loup River meanders through some of the most beautiful hills in the area. The Sandhills Golf Course will challenge even the professional golfer.

Historical sites include the grand wooden windmill on the courthouse lawn, the old Hams Hotel, the old one-room schoolhouse, and the Dry Valley Church. Perhaps sharing a malt at the original soda shop at the Jewel Diner can fit into the traveler's agenda.
